AMR
& D
have been touting its racing record and implying that this proves the
value of the products it sells. Unfortunately the plane they race and
the parts they sell have little or no relationship to each other.
First of all, the race is supposed to be for aircraft certificated in
the normal category...but AMR&D does not enter such a plane. If the
rules were enforced, they would not even be counted as finishing...they
would be disqualified!
But, you
may say, they do go around the course fast. In any race there are rules.
If you play fast and loose with the rules, you may appear to win. But
then comes the technical inspection and you are fined instead. That's
what makes a race fair and worth entering! Not the AMR&D way!
What do you
say, Mr. Mattson?

CAFE
RACES
In the eighties, there were some serious
races run once a year in California. So serious that virtually every manufacturer
and every modifier entered them. I flew all the way from the Virgin Islands
to enter. Every plane was meticulously inspected and weighed twice!
Knots
2 U entered, so did LoPresti. My score in 1984, flying a Piper Lance with
the LFS mods on it has never been beaten by any standard category aircraft
except a highly modified Bonanza. The next best Lance entered was 17 mph
slower!
